Poll of Arab youth finds Palestinian-Israeli conflict not top concern Dr. Aaron Lerner 17 April 2016 When Arab youth can choose as many "obstacles" facing the Middle East that they want to identify - only 23% include the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in their choices and when asked why young people are attracted to Daesh only 13% chose to include the Palestinian-Israeli conflict among their choice of three. The 8th Annual ASDA’A Burson-Marsteller Arab Youth Survey 2016 was conducted by international polling firm PSB. http://www.arabyouthsurvey.com/uploads/whitepaper/2016-AYS-White-Paper-EN_12042016100316.pdf PSB conducted 3,500 face-to-face interviews from January 11 to February 22, 2016 with Arab men and women in the age group of 18 to 24. The interviews were completed in Arabic and English. The Survey is the most comprehensive of its kind covering the six Gulf Cooperation Council states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE), Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Yemen. The Survey did not include Syria due to the civil unrest in the country. What to you believe is the biggest obstacle facing the Middle East? ["For this particular question, survey respondents were allowed to provide multiple answers, if they thought that more than one issue was a top obstacle facing the region. For that reason, the total number adds up to more than 100%.} Sunil John- Chief Executive Officer - ASDA'A Burson-Marsteller in e-mail to IMRA] 50% Rise of Daesh 38% Threat of terrorism 36% Unemployment 34% Civil unrest 30% Rising cost of living 25% Lack of strong political leadership 23% Palestinian-Israel conflict 22% Lack of Arab unity 22% Lack of democracy 17% Loss of traditional values 17% The threat of a nuclear Iran 16% Slow economic growth 13% Lack of opportunities for women 01% Other 01% Don’t Know Which of the following, if any, do you think are the primary reasons why some young people are attracted to Daesh?
