Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Monday in Jerusalem with a delegation of senior Indonesian journalists who are visiting Israel this week as guests of the Foreign Ministry.
Israel and Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, do not have formal diplomatic relations, but there are business ties between the countries and the governments reportedly maintain unofficial contacts.
On Monday, Netanyahu told the visiting Indonesian journalists: "The time has come for official relations between Indonesia and Israel. We have many opportunities to cooperate in the fields of water and technology. Israel has excellent relations with several countries in Asia, particularly China, Japan, India and Vietnam. In addition, Israel is also deepening its relations with Africa, Latin America and Russia.
"Relations with the Arab world are also changing. Indeed, we are allies in the fight against radical Islam. Relations between Israel and Indonesia must also change. I have more than a few Indonesian friends on Facebook. The time has come to change our relations; the reasons that prevented this are no longer relevant and I hope that your visit will help with this."
The delegation's meeting with Netanyahu came just two weeks after Israel prevented Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi from visiting Ramallah to meet with Palestinian Authority officials because she did not also plan to visit Jerusalem to meet with Israeli government officials. After that incident, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said that Marsudi's intention to skip over a stop in Jerusalem marked a violation of a secret understanding previously agreed between Israel and Indonesia.
"Despite the fact that Indonesia does not have official diplomatic relations with Israel, we have much respect for the Indonesian people and their leaders," Hotovely said at the time. "There are ongoing contacts between us and Indonesia on a range of issues and we are seeking all the time to improve ties."

You guys should just follow Japan. The smartest policy ever. Just ban them from coming in. If they are already in, ban them from practicing religion in the open. Do you know there is only one imam in Tokyo? Good job well done, japs. [Jämför Kina.]
Our vice president just banned mosques to play recorded praying (said recorded praying does not count as praying) and restaurants/eateries should be open during the fasting month (no more white cloth draping over the windows) to respect people who are not moslems.
You know how people react to his statement, the fact that he is a moslem too and has respected reputation as a clean politician, and being 70 something is a huge advantage. You do not yell and call names to old persons with those credentials.
Not many people dare to say what he said, and so far he is not only the first person to criticize how moslems should behave, he is also the first moslem who is brave enough to point that out. Long live MJK. He belongs to the usually quiet, educated moslem communities who clearly stated that indo moslems should not embrace arab cultures. It would be a huge step back. It may take some time for people to fully understand that sharia law belongs to mean, self centered men who just can not be put to trial for their own sins. We all used to live in caves centuries ago. Now we live in houses, own a car, so why would they still hang on to law or tradition during the time they still ride on camels' back? It is so outdated. You do no longer burn sorcerers. Well sorcerers now do earn millions and have their own tv shows. Why would you stone adulterers to death, cut off a thief's arm, but send rapists free because no four male witnesses around???
I went to church on Sunday (thunder rolled, the sea parted ... nah), and as I tried to concentrate on hearing the sermon (because seeing is hardly believing, I sat behind two pillars so I could not see whoever was talking, just the middle part of his face: nose, lips and sometimes right eye or left eye), this muscle guy who sat beside me took off his shoes and put his bare feet on the kneeling pad, while his body was bending forward, I thought he was searching for his lost soul somewhere between his knees, but in reality his hands was cuddling his smart phone and he was browsing either instagrams or facebook. Sometimes he chatted softly with the pretty five years old who sat directly in front of him, whose parents undoubtedly his acquaintance, his wife minded her own business holding their baby. The little girl sometimes wandered off to his seat, sometimes swimming on the bench while her parents were kneeling, sometimes tried to shake her mother (whose eyes are on the altar mostly), annoyed her little sister (who is unfortunately less pretty and less hair too, poor girl she's going to suffer and probably lose the sibling war), ignored her father who spent most time trying to locate his older daughter's whereabouts (I lost count on how many times he turned his head around).
By the time the holy communion was given, the beau pocketed his phone, put on his shoes and rose to receive the blessing as a good, old fashioned catholic boy.
In the end, I apologized to God for being a shallow person who judge people I don't know, instead of paying attention to the sermon I was scrutinizing other people's behaviour. You can't fix stupid, and you can't fix nosy either.
Tomorrow I go back to work. Bitchy client waiting.
Have a nice Sunday!
