It’s Time for the United States to Grade the U.N. and Other International Organizations (full text)   (top)
…. Whether it’s the U.N. or other global institutions, the United States should regularly assess international organizations to see if they serve our priorities and collective goals effectively. ….

Two sober public servants are proposing just that ….  new Multilateral Aid Review Act would create an executive branch task force to assess 38 organizations, as well as a parallel peer review body, made up of experts appointed by the Republican and Democratic leaders of both the House and Senate. …

…. pick a few touchstones on which to grade both state-based agencies …. and hybrids that integrate private and civil society partners …  suggest five.

First, organizations must serve our nation’s and citizens’ interests. …. give the United States a large voice and a veto against mischief.
Second, it is worth testing whether bodies meet their own mandate. …. are they creeping away from their original intent?
Third, does an agency serve the basic values of the United States and of humankind? …. advance peace, prosperity, and pluralism? ….

Fourth, institutions need to be accountable and transparent. …. organizational processes should be open to scrutiny to avoid waste and graft. …..
Last …. worth trying to judge organizations’ comparative nimbleness. Some organizations have a capacity to evolve effectively, like NATO after the Cold War welcoming former foes. ….  The reports of the Multilateral Organization Performance Assessment Network are as thorough as its name is difficult to say. Publish What You Fund offers exacting assessments of organizations’ relative transparency. …. other major Western governments assess multilateral agencies’ efficacy and alignment with their members’ global aims, just as the U.K. and Australia do. It would be fitting and responsible for the United States to do so too, and on a formal basis. …..

…. help the executive and legislative branches decide which agencies deserve taxpayers’ money most. …. indeed, a benefit of graded reports …. is that they demonstrably give those graded an incentive to improve.

In 90 Seconds, Hillel Neuer Takes on U.N. Dictators

After North Korea, Venezuela, Syria, Iran, Russia and other of the world’s worst dictatorships told lies, UN Watch’s Hillel Neuer was given 90 seconds to take the floor & set the record straight.

UN chief against Trump's cuts

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warns against Trump’s plan to cut some funding for the world body.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday spoke out against U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to cut some U.S. funding for the world body.
"Abrupt funding cuts can force the adoption of ad hoc measures that will undermine the impact of longer-term reform efforts," Guterres’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric warned, according to Reuters.
"The Secretary-General fully subscribes to the necessity to effectively combat terrorism, but believes that it requires more than military spending," he added, responding to Trump's proposal for an additional $54 billion in military spending.
Trump unveiled on Thursday the first budget proposal of his presidency, totaling $1.15 trillion and including a roughly 10% boost to the U.S. military, amounting to some $54 billion.
The UN, which currently receives some $10 billion per annum from the U.S., would also see a significant cut in funding, according to the budget.
While the proposal states only that the administration plans on reducing “funding to the UN and affiliated agencies” without specifying an amount, Foreign Policy reported this week that the White House has instructed the State Department to cut more than half of American funding for the UN.
The United States is the biggest contributor to the United Nations, paying 22 percent of the $5.4 billion core budget and 28.5 percent of the $7.9 billion peacekeeping budget.
There were calls on Trump to cut American funding to the UN following the Security Council’s passage of Resolution 2334 which criticizes Israel’s presence in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem.
Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced a law that would block taxpayer dollars from going toward the UN, in response to Resolution 2334.

Israel skär bort 6 miljoner dollars till FN.

Israel cuts UN funding following 'anti-settlement' resolution

Israel announces it will be suspending a significant portion of its annual contributions to the United Nations for 2017.

Israel announced on Friday it would be suspending a significant portion of its annual contributions to the United Nations for 2017, in response to the approval of UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemned Israel’s presence in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem.
The Israeli Mission informed the UN that the cut, amounting to approximately six million dollars, is an act of protest and represents the portion of the UN budget allocated to anti-Israel bodies.
These UN bodies include the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), the Division for Palestinian Rights (DPR), the Work of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories (SCIIHRP), and the Special Information Program on the Question of Palestine of the UN Department of Public Information.
Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, commented on the decision and said, "It is unreasonable for Israel to fund bodies that operate against us at the UN. The UN must end the absurd reality in which it supports bodies whose sole intent is to spread incitement and anti-Israel propaganda."
Danon added that "now is the time to implement real change at the UN. We seek to stop the practice where the UN is used solely as a forum for unending attacks against Israel."
Israel's cut in funding is the first in a series of steps under consideration by the Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Mission in reaction to the recent Security Council resolution.
The Israeli Mission is also planning additional initiatives aimed at encouraging structural change within the UN with the ultimate goal of ending anti-Israel activities. The Israeli Mission is planning on moving forward on these initiatives once the new U.S. administration takes office later this month.
On Thursday, the United States House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution rebuking the United Nations for passing Resolution 2334.
The bipartisan House measure, which passed by a majority of 342 to 80, demands that the UN repeal or fundamentally alter the measure it passed.
In the wake of the anti-Israel resolution, several American lawmakers have called for the U.S. to stop funding to the UN until the resolution is reversed.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has announced he will propose a measure to pull U.S. funding for the UN unless the UN Security Council repeals the resolution it passed.

Ban ki-Moons alla mungipor.

Häromdagen sa han:

we must never accept bias against Israel within UN bodies

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General welcomes the adoption by the Security Council of resolution 2334 (2016) on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.  The resolution is a significant step, demonstrating the Council's much needed leadership and the international community’s collective efforts to reconfirm that the vision of two States is still achievable.

Justice Minister says UN Security Council decision just before Hanukkah is reminiscent of Jewish history.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) reacted on Saturday night to the UN Security Council's Resolution 2334, which ordered Israel to stop all building in the "Palestinian territory" (som inte existerar) of Judea and Samaria.
"Happy Hanukkah to the entire Jewish nation," Shaked said. "The UN Security Council's resolution, passed just before Hanukkah, reminds us of something in our history. But this time, we're strong enough and this decision won't affect our power in the slightest."
"There's something very sad and pitiful about that moment when the Security Council votes for an anti-Israel resolution and the world cheers. It's the moment that shows all the rot in the UN. Half a million men, women, and children are being murdered in Syria, and this emasculated organization does not even raise a hand to help.
"But when it comes to harming the Jewish state, why not. Syria they protect. There are no resolutions against it. But against the only democratic country in the Middle East there are dozens of resolutions. It's just like David Ben Gurion said: 'Um (the UN's Hebrew acronym is Um, ed), shmum.'* We survived Pharaoh, we'll survive this, too," Shaked concluded.

*The Hebrew acronym for the UN is pronounced Oom (umot meuchadot). The repetition of a word with "sh" at the beginning is a form of deprecation.

UN to fund 'blacklist' of Israeli companies

UN to vote to fund a "blacklist" of companies operating in Jerusalem, the Golan and Judea and Samaria. Danon: We will oppose this move.

The United Nations is set to vote next week to fund a "blacklist" of Israeli and international companies operating in Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and in Judea and Samaria.

The vote, which will take place in the Fifth Committee which oversees the UN's budget and administration, will authorize funding for the UN's Human Rights Council to compile the list. The intent to create the list, which is expected to be utilized by Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) activists for anti-Israel activities, caused an international uproar when it was announced last March.

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, announced on Friday that the Israeli Mission will publicly oppose the list and that he created a task-force to propose new ideas to combat the initiative.

Danon also stated his commitment to bring together international partners and pro-Israel organizations to oppose the list.

"We will not be silent in light of this shameful initiative," said Danon, adding, "The UN's intent to mark Jewish businesses and international companies with ties to Israel so that they can be boycotted reminds us of dark times in history. The Human Rights Council is already known as an anti-Semitic and anti-Israel entity, but it is unacceptable for the UN itself to support this despicable decision."

Upon announcing the intention to create the list last March, the Human Rights Council explained that they expected to update it annually.

When the announcement of the blacklist was made public, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu condemned it and said that "the UNHRC has become an anti-Israeli circus with their attacks on the only democracy in the Middle East and their disregard for the gross violations in Iran, Syria and North Korea.”

The prime minister called on “responsible governments” not to respect the UN resolution that discriminates against Israel.

The UN is known for its anti-Israel bias, and just last week passed a series of anti-Israel resolutions during its annual “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”.

The body’s outgoing chief, Ban Ki-moon, admitted that the UN is biased against Israel during a 2013 session with students participating in the Rishon Lezion College of Management’s Model UN program.

The UN’s Schizophrenia on Israel

If you want to understand why no rational person should take the United Nations seriously, consider the following three facts: Last week, the World Health Organization, a UN agency, named Israel the first country in the world to be awarded its highest ranking for medical emergency response teams deployed overseas. In other words, the organization deemed the Israel Defense Forces its first responder of choice for any disaster worldwide. Two weeks ago, the daily Israel Hayomreported that the UN’s peacekeeping service asked Israel to train its peacekeepers in emergency field medicine; the seminar is expected to take place in the coming weeks. And every year, this same UN labels Israel the world’s worst violator of health rights, the only country deserving of a country-specific condemnation.

Article (12) Complete liberation of Palestine, and eradication of Zionist economic, political, military and cultural existence.
Article (19) Armed struggle is a strategy and not a tactic, and the Palestinian Arab People's armed revolution is a decisive factor in the liberation fight and in uprooting the Zionist existence, and this struggle will not cease unless the Zionist state is demolished and Palestine is completely liberated.

Israeli Ambassador Danon blasts UN 'obsession with Israel'

After UN Secretary-General says 50 years of 'occupation' is 'madness', Ambassador Danon says the UN 'obsession' with Israel must end.
Shai Landesman,

Danny Danon and Ban Ki-moon
Shahar Ezran
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon reacted harshly to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s opening address at the UN General Assembly. The Secretary-General decided to take the opportunity to criticize Israel, saying: “Ten years of illegal settlement expansion and fifty years of occupation. This is madness. The Palestinians cannot continue to live under Israeli occupation.”
Ambassador Danon reacted by saying that “The real madness belongs to the UN. Instead of focusing on Palestinian terror and incitement, and instead of compelling [Palestinian Authority President] Mahmoud Abbas to return to the negotiating table, the Secretary-General chose to criticize Israel once again. This is an obsession with Israel and it must end.”
“At a time when Palestinian terror is on the rise in Israel, the Secretary-General chose to criticize us and ignore the direct responsibility of Abbas and the Palestinian leadership who continue to incite towards terror.”
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said in every opportunity he gets that he is willing to meet with Abbas "anytime, anywhere" to discuss peace. Abbas, for his part, refuses to meet for negotiations unless certain "preconditions" are met, namely, that Israel makes concessions before negotiations even begin.
Secretary-General Ban, apparently, still chooses to focus on the "occupation" and "settlements" as the perceived main source of the problem.

UN Agency Publishing Numerous Reports that Parrot Anti-Israel Sources

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Palestinian territories (OCHA-oPt) acts as one of the primary coordinators of NGO funding and activity in the Arab-Israeli conflict, NGO Monitor reported Thursday, adding that these NGOs are highly active in promoting international BDS and “lawfare” campaigns, and some even engage in blatantly anti-Semitic activities.
Based on the resources and impact of its status as a UN agency, OCHA amplifies their politicized and distorted claims by publishing numerous reports, fact-sheets, and informational databases that parrot NGO allegations. The NGO sources lack the credible research methodology and necessary military and legal expertise to draw credible conclusions. These claims are then repeated by journalists and diplomats, feature prominently in official UN reports, such as the discredited 2009 Goldstone report and the Commission of the Inquiry into the 2014 Gaza War, an provide fuel in the ongoing international delegitimization campaign against Israel.

UN chief urges Iranian 'restraint' following missile tests

UN Secretary-General urges Iran to act with moderation and caution in the wake of its latest ballistic missile launch.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday urged Iran to show “restraint” in the wake of its latest ballistic missile launch.

In a statement, Ban's spokesman said the UN chief called on the Iranian government “to act with moderation, caution and the good sense not to increase tensions through any hasty actions.”

The statement noted that in January, Security Council sanctions previously imposed on Iran through resolution 2231 (2015) were terminated following the release of a report by inspectors from the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The report confirmed the country had completed necessary preparatory steps to start the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action aimed at resolving the nuclear issue.

“In that resolution, the Secretary-General notes, the Council called upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology,” said Ban’s spokesperson.

“The Secretary-General also notes that it is for the Security Council to examine information regarding resolution 2231 (2015),” it added, noting that the UN chief urges all concerned to act with restraint.

The United States has said that a series of recent apparent missile tests by Iran breach the terms of a UN Security Council resolution and will result in new economic sanctions -- either from Washington or the world body.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State John Kerry called his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, to protest Tehran's latest round of ballistic missile tests.

Iran and the United States have no formal diplomatic ties, but Kerry and Zarif built a close working relationship during negotiations for last year's nuclear accord between Tehran and world powers.

Also on Wednesday, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who is visiting Israel, said the United States would take action against Iran if its long-range ballistic missile tests were confirmed.

Hur västbanksaraberna hade det innan Peres/Rabin släpade in Arafat, se länk.
