“We want peace with Israel. Most people understand that the enemy is Iran and not Israel,” said Salim Hudaifa of the Free Syrian Army.

A leading member of Syria’s political opposition said most Syrians view Iran as the real enemy and not Israel, adding that Israel could do more to help the Syrian people.

“We want peace with Israel, and today, among the opposition in Syria, most people understand that the enemy is Iran and not Israel, so there is a good chance that there will be peace in the future,” said Salim Hudaifa, a former Syrian military officer who serves as a political representative of the opposition’s Free Syrian Army at the Eurasian Media Forum in Kazakhstan.

Hudaifa is a former intelligence officer who abandoned Syria’s military in the 1990s and eventually gained asylum in Denmark. During the Syrian Civil War, Hudaifa was recruited by the US to head a program to train the Free Syrian Army, but the program was eventually abandoned by the US Defense Department.

“Israel needs to do more and help the rebels. People here are disappointed [with Israel]. There are also quite a few who think that [the Israelis] are helping [Syrian President Bashar] Assad, because they see that the Israeli-Syrian border is quiet,” Hudaifa said during a forum attended by Israeli dignitaries such as Gilead Sher, the Jewish state’s former chief peace negotiator.

Arab Media Does Not Report Israeli Aid

“I think [Israel] can be more proactive and help us,” added Hudaifa. “Regarding the treatment of the wounded in your hospitals, it certainly improved Israel’s image in the eyes of Syrians, but only in a limited way. The reason is that the Arab media does not report it.”

Israel is secretly supporting Syrian rebel groups along its border with Syria in the Golan Heights, providing them with funds, food, fuel and medical supplies, The Wall Street Journal reported last week.

While Israel has largely refrained from getting involved in the six-year-long civil war, it has periodically carried out airstrikes in Syria when its interests are threatened. These strikes have mainly been against the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, which is significantly involved in supporting Assad’s regime in the conflict.

While Israel has largely remained neutral in regards to the conflict in Syria, IDF medics and Israeli doctors have treated more than 3,000 Syrian war casualties in special IDF medical facilities set up along the border as well as in Israeli hospitals.

Israelis have also launched several humanitarian campaigns on behalf of the beleaguered Syrian refugees, as well as an effort to raise funds for humanitarian aid for the victims.

Ziv Medical Center in northern Israel, which has treated over 700 casualties from the civil war raging in Syria, launched a fundraising campaign for medical supplies and other important items necessary for the victims’ recuperation.

In December, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is seeking ways to boost its aid to Syria’s swelling refugee population.

USS Porter fires Tomahawk cruise missiles at Syrian airbase follow gas attack

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and other government officials expressed their support for US President Donald Trump's decision to launch a series of air strikes in Syria Thursday night.
The USS Porter launched 59 Tomahawk missiles at the Ash Sha'irat air base in Homs province in western Syria. The planes which carried out a chemical weapons this week attack which drew global condemnation were launched from Ash Sha'irat.
"In both word and action, President Trump sent a strong and clear message today that the use and spread of chemical weapons will not be tolerated. Israel fully supports President Trump's decision and hopes that this message of resolve in the face of the Assad regime's horrific actions will resonate not only in Damascus, but in Tehran, Pyongyang and elsewhere," Prime Minister Netanyahu said following the attack.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin also expressed his support for the strikes.
"In the face of the terrible use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians, the clear and determined steps of the US Administration and Military under the leadership of President Trump, constitute a fitting and appropriate response to such unthinkable brutality," Rivlin said. "In acting as it has, the United States serves as an example to the entire free world, which must support any step required to bring the atrocities in Syria to an end."
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said: "Assad's murderous regime continues to cross all lines. The US strike sent a strong message that this will no longer stand. The actions by our American allies serve as a beacon of morality for the entire international community."

Other allies of the US, including the UK, Japan, France, Turkey, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand expressed their support for the strikes.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande said in a joint statement Friday that "President Assad alone carries responsibility for these developments" due to his "repeated use of chemical weapons and his crimes against his own people."
The Turkish foreign ministry said that Turkey viewed the air strikes as a "very positive" development. In addition, Saudi Arabia praised the decision to launch the strikes as "extremely courageous."
Syrian rebel groups welcomed the US response as well, and expressed hope that US military action against the Assad regime will continue.
“The American strike against the killing tools used by Bashar al-Assad is the first step on the correct path to combating terrorism and we hope it will continue,” said Issam Raes, spokesman for the Southern Front rebel faction.

US President Donald Trump condemned on Wednesday the chemical weapons attack in the Idlib province of Syria on Tuesday.

As he welcomed the King of Jordan Abdullah II to the White House, Trump called the attack a “horrible thing, unspeakable,” and “a terrible affront to humanity.”

“These are very troubled times in the Middle East,” he said.

“These heinous actions by the Assad regime cannot be tolerated,” Trump said. “The United States stands with our allies across the globe to condemn this horrific attack.”

Asked whether he was forming a new policy towards Syria, Trump told reporters, “you’ll see.”

King Abdullah said that the chemical weapons attack crossed the “threshold of inhumanity and savagery” and that he fully supports Trump on the matter.

Trump said that the attack had a "big impact" on him, adding that "it's already happened that my attitude towards Assad and Syria has changed very much."

He said that he does not want to reveal his plans for how to respond to the attack, as doing so would allow the Assad regime and terrorist organizations such as ISIS to prepare. According to Trump, one of the mistakes the Obama Administration made while pursuing military action in the Middle East was revealing what it intended to do to its targets beforehand, making those military actions more complicated than they needed to be.

"It (Syria) is now my responsibility," he declared.

On Tuesday, The White House blamed the Obama administration for creating conditions enabling the attack.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer told a briefing that "These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the last administration's weakness and irresolution. President Obama said in 2012 that he would establish a 'red line' against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing."

AMSTERDAM - fransmän, tyskar och britter utgör det högsta antalet utländska soldater bland de syriska rebellerna från europeiska länder, men Belgien är den största bidragsgivaren i förhållande till sin befolkning, visar en holländsk studie.

Européer kämpar tillsammans med islamistiska grupper i Syrien och Irak har varit högt upp på dagordningen för europeiska säkerhetsfrågor i flera år. Returnerade frivilliga har varit inblandade i attacker i Paris och Bryssel under de senaste 18 månaderna, inklusive förra månadens bomber i den belgiska huvudstaden.

Studien, som utarbetats av Haag-baserade Internationella centret för kampen mot terrorism, sade EU-länder inte bör vara nöjda om deras medborgare lämnar för att kämpa i Mellanöstern, även de som har sett lite sådan rörelse.

AMSTERDAM - French, Germans and Britons make up the highest number of foreign fighters in the Syrian rebel ranks from European countries, but Belgium is the largest contributor in proportion to its population, a Dutch study shows.

Europeans fighting alongside Islamist groups in Syria and Iraq have been high on the agenda of European security concerns for several
years. Returned volunteers have been involved in attacks in Paris and Brussels over the past 18 months, including last month's bomb blasts in the Belgian capital.

The study, prepared by the Hague-based International Centre for Counter-Terrorism, said European Union countries should not be complacent about their citizens leaving to fight in the Middle East, even those that have seen little such movement.

Det är väl tveksamt om mitt svar tas in eftersom det motbevisar deras spyor. Det är visserligen i Dagen, "den kristna tidningen" men det innebär bara att man nappar på alla ruriker med ordet "pastor" eller liknande. Ingen moralisk skyldighet att hålla sej till verifierad sanning.

The battles in N. Syria will determine the fate of the peace process

The US-Russian plan, approved by the UN Security Council as the lever for activating a political process towards ending the five-year Syrian war, can only go so far towards its objectives. The process is not capable of halting the fighting or removing Bashar Assad from power; just the reverse: progress in the talks is heavily dependent on the state of play on the battlefields of the north while the Syrian dictator’s ouster is a fading issue.
The limitations and obstacles facing the UN-endorsed US-Russian plan are summed up here by DEBKAfile’s analysts:

1. The understanding reached by the Obama administration and the Kremlin in the past month was first conceived as a stopgap measure. It was never intended to bring the calamitous Syrian war to an end or remove Assad, but rather to provide a pretext to account for the expansion of Russia’s ground operation and gloss over America’s military deficiencies in the Syrian conflict. Taking it as carte blanche from Washington, President Vladimir Putin felt able to announce Saturday, Dec. 19, that “the Russian armed forces have not employed all of their capability in Syria and may use more military means there if necessary.” 

2. President Barack Obama has stopped calling for Assad’s removal as the condition for ending the war and is silent on the expanding Russian military intervention. Obama and Putin have in fact developed a working arrangement whereby Putin goes ahead with military operations and Obama backs him up..   

3. Almost unnoticed, on Dec. 17, the day before the Security Council passed its resolution for Syria, all the 12 US warplanes that were deployed a month earlier at the Turkish air base of Incirlik for air strikes in Syria were evacuated. This happened at around the same time as Russia deployed to Syria its Buk-M2-SA-17 Grizzly antiaircraft missile systems. The presence of this system would have endangered American pilots had US air strikes over Syria not been halted. The upshot of the two evidently coordinated moves was the US withdrawal of most of its military resources for striking the Islamic State forces in Syria and the handover of the arena to the Russian army and air force.

4. In another related development, Friday, Dec. 18 the German intelligence service, BND, leaked news that it had renewed its contacts with the Assad regime’s intelligence services and German agents were now visiting Damascus regularly. The import of this change is that Berlin no longer relies on US intelligence briefings from Syria and, rather than turn to Moscow, it prefers to tap its own sources in the Syrian capital.

5. Washington and Moscow are still far apart on the shape of the transitional government mandated by the Security Council resolution

The Obama administration wants Assad to hand presidential powers over the military and of all security-related and intelligence bodies to the transitional government, which is to be charged with calling general and presidential elections from which Assad will be barred.
Putin won’t hear of this process. He insists on a transitional government being put in place and proving it can function before embarking on any discussion of its powers and areas of authority.
The two presidents agree that the transition will need at least two years, overlapping the Obama presidency by about a year and dropping the issue in the lap of his successor in the White House.

6. The US and Russia don’t see to eye to eye either on which Syrian opposition organizations should be represented in the transitional government and which portfolios to assign them. On this question, both Washington and Moscow are at odds with the Persian Gulf states, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, which back some of the organizations labeled as terrorist by Moscow.
7. But it is abundantly clear that the Obama administration is ready to wash its hands of the Syrian rebel movement and most of all, abandon Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to give the Russians an open remit.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, Putin turned the screw again on Erdogan when he said he had no problem with the Turkish people, adding, “As for the current Turkish leadership, nothing is eternal.”

In support of Moscow, Obama meanwhile leaned hard on the Turkish president in a telephone conversation, to remove Turkish forces from northern Iraq. Ankara responded that Putin’s comment was not worth a response and denied hearing of any such US request.

Ankara may be feigning ignorance but it must realize by now that Moscow and Washington have joined forces to pus the Turkish military out of any involvement in northern Syria and Iraq.     

8. This US-Russia collaboration against Turkey is having a dramatic effect on the war in northern Syria along the Turkish border. DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report it opened the door to the secret deal between Washington and Moscow to divide the areas of influence in northern Syria between them – essentially assigning the Kurdish enclaves north of the Euphrates river and bordering on Iraq to American influence (see map), and the areas west of the Euphrates up to the Mediterranean to Russian control. This deal (first revealed by DEBKA Weekly 688 on Dec. 4) effectively squeezes Turkey out of any role in the Syrian conflict.

9. The ongoing battles in northern Syria near the Turkish border will have a greater impact in shaping the future of Syria and its unending conflict than any UN resolution. Participating in the fighting at present is a very big mixed cast: Russia, the Kurdish YPG militia, most of the important rebel groups, including radical Sunni organizations tied to Al Qaeda, such as the Nusra Front and Ahram al-Sham, Iran and Shiite Hizballah, and the Islamic State.
It is only when one of these forces gains the upper hand in this free-for-all, that there will be progress toward a political solution on ending the war.

Obama försöker låtsas att han gör något.

Obongon tänker sätta in max 50 man efter det att 250.000 har dödats.  Nu när Ryssland har sett sej nödsakat att komma i tomrummet Obama har lämnat, har han visst vaknat. Men han har inte en aning vad han ska göra, efter dessa år av försök. Han har redan höstat in ett Nobelpris efter att inte ha gjort ett dugg, tror han att han ska få fler genom att satsa 50 man att lösa det krig som håller på att förstöra EU genom att islamisera det? Ångrar han att han initierade ISIS?

Dessa 50 ska inte göra någonting, utan bara ge råd till det urval Hillary gjorde för att vara säker på att få terrorister som tillhörde Muslimska Brödraskapet, inte kristna, druser, sekulära, kurder....  Minns Hillarys aktioner:

En organisation, det syriska demokratirådet (SDC), en opposition bestående av olika etniska och religiösa organisationer, inklusive Alawis, arameiska kristna, druser och assyrier har tydligt – och inte av någon slump – utelämnats från inbjudningslistan ”.

Ryssland och Israel kommunicerar väl så Israel kunde attackera Hizbollah i Syrien.

Denna riskabla men nödvändiga operationen är en övning i att Israel och ryssarna nosar på varandra, och visar att det kan samarbeta.  Israel har nogsamt förklarat för Putin att de försvarar sig mot terror från Hizbollah. Inget sånt förtroende har påvisats mellan Obongon och Israel. USA har väl inte ett enda krigsfartyg i Medelhavet. USAs styrkor i våras i Persiska Gulfen enligt länk. Länk ger fler detaljer.
